In 1880, the Domain was bought from the Baronne de Domsy by the Bacot family. The condition was that the castle they would build had to carry the same name as the Abbaye. André Bacot, owner of the castle, was an officer during the First World War, then commandant in Verdun. He particularly enjoyed the wood of Chaâlis, practicing hunting, one of his favorite hobby.

      André Bacot, mayor of Pomponne between 1938 and 1944, installed electricity and water in the castle and the second floor was furnished. But troubled times came with the Second World War and, during the winter of 1940, the castle was used by German officers. It is only after the war that Chaâlis regains its elegance with Didier Bacot, son of André Bacot. Great receptions, wonderful ban- quets, all the noblemen from Paris were invited : among others, the French minister of the Finances, Mister Baumgartner. Great tables lay out fruits, vegetables and meat, all extracted from the domain. During this period, the castle was self-sufficient with 21 staff members.

      Recently, that is 4 years ago, the castle was bought from the Bacot family and became a private company (SARL). On the actual park of 40 hectares, the castle is surrounded by the outbuildings, the stables, the farmyard and the orangery in a garden of 1 hectare.

      The objective of the SARL is to cultivate the natural elements of the domain in a well-balanced way. For example, there is the wood, the garden and the tree nursery. Horseback riding on the domain will be possible after the restoration of the stables. Workshops will also be created for artisans like stonemason, cabinetmaker, blacksmith, etc. The salons are used for banquets and the rooms are available for rent. In the near futur, many projects will see the light of day for the Château de Chaâlis is a great source of richness.
